Annual Meeting and Activities

2018 GLREA Annual Meeting - Saturday December 8

GLREA is pleased to announce the 2018 Annual Meeting on Saturday December 8.  The meeting will take place at the 'Freighhouse' located at 100 Market Pl, in Ypsilanti, MI 48198. The Freighthouse is a beautiful historical former railroad station that has been rehabilitated to be an event facility. But this facility is powered by solar thanks to GLREA Member Dave Strenski.

We are organizing this meeting a little different than in past years.  This Annual Meeting will start at 9:45 am because we wanted to add two very important workshops in the morning.  The first workshop will discuss how Dave Strenski has been educating and expanding solar in Ypsilanti.  We think what Dave is doing could be a model for how other communities could be educating homeowners and business about solar.  So Dave will be discussing the 'Ypsilanti Model.'

The second workshop will be about the Distributed Energy Tariiff that DTE has proposed in their July 7 rate case with the MI Public Service Commission, case number U-20162. What DTE has proposed is so outragous and yet if they successful this new net metering policy could seriious undermine the economics of installing a solar system. Julie Baldwin of the MI Public Service Commssion will be speaking about this process and what the PSC's reaaction is to DTE's proposal. So come and learn about this proposal and share your thoughts with Ms. Baldwin.

Michigan Solar Users Network

The Michigan Solar Users Network (MiSUN) is a network of solar owners who share information regarding their experience in owning solar in an effort to educate and expand solar to other homeowners and farmers. Members also discuss the various uses of solar, including hot water heaters and swimming pool solar heaters. GLREA provides support for MiSUN and is working to set up new local chapters. There are no additional membership dues for joining MiSUN.

Current chapters are operating in Ann Arbor (called A2 SUN), Lansing (LaSUN), Warren (WarrenSUN) and Ypsilanti (SolarYpsi). To join click on the MiSUN box and fill in your email address. For more information contact John Sarver at johnsarver3@gmail.com.
