Kris Hunter is the owner of Hunter Energy Resources, a West Michigan based solar-power design and installation firm, and has been an active advocate for the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency in Michigan for over 10 years. She earned a BBA in Finance from Grand Valley State University, an MBA from DePaul University in Chicago, and worked for many years in corporate finance and operations. Despite her successes in manufacturing, she felt compelled to step away from that professional track to focus on her true passion—environmental stewardship and the proliferation of renewable energy within her community. Consequently, she completed the solar installation training program through GLREA, received certification in Applied Alternative & Renewable Energy (from Muskegon Community College and the Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center of GVSU), and successfully completed the NABCEP photovoltaic entry level exam.
Kris has participated in many grassroots efforts to educate community members about energy efficiency and renewable energy options. She has led seminars for faith-based organizations and local youth groups. She has had the opportunity to be a guest speaker for West Ottawa Public Schools and a guest teacher for the Environmental Science class at Grand Haven Area Public Schools. Further educational efforts include Kris’ involvement with the Midwest Renewable Energy Association as a ‘PowerPack Installer’ participating in regional presentations to community members (growsolar.org/power-pack), acting as a solar power information/technology contributor for GreenMichigan.org, and serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Assoeciation.
